Email log (substance)
2026-04-29 — Production MVP cost (ballpark) — to Doak
Ask: Ballpark for a bank-compliant, production-level MVP to go live with several banks, then iterate.
Response sent (summary):
- A credible number depends on v1 scope: how many banks on first live version; compliance and security bar (hosting, logging, access controls, data handling, vendor / diligence package); which integrations (identity, documents, core/LOS) are in vs manual in the first release. A tight pilot vs several banks + multiple integrations can multiply cost and time.
- Directional only (wide band, not a quote): moving from a 2-week demo to a defensible first production slice is typically an order of magnitude or more of effort than a single sprint; in many similar programs the effort often falls in the low- to mid–six figure range, with multi-phase timelines. Parallelism vs sequencing and team size affect calendar time. Assumptions matter—do not anchor on a false precision in email.
- Next step offered: ~1 hour with Doak and team to align on: (1) what MVP v1 must do for first go-live, (2) how many and which banks in the first wave, (3) in vs out for compliance and integrations. Suggested product path: win design partner(s) → structured discovery (checklist) with an anchor bank to inform MVP scope → then a quote with full scope.
Internal follow-ups (for Brainforge):
- If Doak needs a phased ROM (even wide) for internal planning before a full quote, offer it after a short scope pass or checklist—only if that matches commercial policy.
- Wording to keep consistent: one design partner bank to ground discovery vs “first wave” count—avoid sounding as if “one bank” contradicts “several banks” in the same MVP.
Objection & FAQ (working)
Use this table to keep answers consistent across Doak, Clarence, and internal prep. Update as new questions land.
| Topic | Question / push | How to handle |
|---|---|---|
| Full production cost | “What’s the ballpark for bank-ready production?” | Scope drivers: banks in v1, compliance bar, integrations vs manual. Give directional band and phases; avoid single-point quotes without discovery. |
| Why no firm $ yet | “Just give me a number.” | Firm quote needs MVP v1 definition, first-wave bank reality, and diligence inputs. Offer ROM + assumptions or paid discovery if that’s the model. |
| Sprint 1 vs “real” product | “Isn’t 2 weeks enough?” | Sprint 1 is demo + architecture direction per SOW; production MVP is a separate phase with different risk and cost. |
| Timeline | “How fast to production?” | Depends on v1 cut, parallel workstreams, and bank procurement. Compressing calendar time usually means more parallel spend or narrower v1. |
| Competitive / build vs buy | — | Stay on Lenni value: productized hub, config + deploy per bank; Brainforge scoping is evidence-based after discovery. |
