Hook: We made a bet most consultancies won’t: we stopped being tool-agnostic.
Observation (what you’re noticing/learning): Most data consultancies pitch themselves as “tool-agnostic.” It sounds safe. It sounds client-first. But I’ve started to wonder if it’s actually a way of avoiding commitment—to a craft, to a point of view, to getting exceptionally good at one thing.
We’re going deep on Omni. Not because it’s the only BI tool that matters, but because we believe it’s the right one for the companies we work with—and because deep specialization compounds in ways that “we work with whatever you have” never does.
Context (why this matters now): The data tooling space is consolidating. Buyers are getting more sophisticated. The question they’re starting to ask isn’t “can you implement X?” It’s “who is the best team in the world at implementing X for companies like ours?”
Being a generalist was defensible when the space was nascent. It’s becoming a liability.
Your take (what you believe / recommend): The best consultancies I’ve seen aren’t wide—they’re deep. They know the product edge cases, the antipatterns, the setup decisions that look fine in week one and break in week twelve. That only comes from reps on one thing.
We’re betting that “best Omni team for DTC brands at growth stage” is a more defensible position than “we do BI.” And that the right clients—the ones who value quality over a vendor-neutral sales pitch—will find us because of it.
If we’re wrong, we’ll know fast. But I think we’re right.

Theme: Modern Data Stack — How to Actually Choose a Data Warehouse

Hook: Most companies choose their data warehouse before they know what question they’re actually trying to answer.
Observation (what you’re noticing/learning): I’ve done enough data architecture engagements now to see a pattern: the warehouse decision gets made early—usually by whoever’s most vocal in the room or whoever ran the last company’s stack—and the rest of the modern data stack gets bolted on top. Sometimes it works. Often it doesn’t, because the warehouse choice carries assumptions about scale, query patterns, and cost that turn into real constraints fast.
Context (why this matters now): Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, Redshift, DuckDB—the options have multiplied. And the marketing from each vendor is good enough that it’s easy to talk yourself into any of them. What the vendors don’t tell you: each one has a regime where it shines and a regime where it quietly bleeds money or performance.
Your take (what you believe / recommend): Here’s the framework I actually use:
< $5M revenue / early-stage: DuckDB or BigQuery. Keep it simple and nearly free. You don’t have a data volume problem yet—you have a data confidence problem. Solve that first.
30M / growth: BigQuery or Snowflake. You’ve got real query volume and stakeholders who need answers. Pick based on your team’s SQL comfort and whether you’re already in GCP or AWS.
100M / scaling: Snowflake or Databricks, depending on how ML-heavy your roadmap is. If you’re doing serious ML/AI workloads, Databricks. If you’re primarily analytics, Snowflake.
$100M+ / enterprise: Snowflake or Databricks with a proper data engineering team. At this stage the warehouse decision matters less than the people and governance around it.
The mistake at every stage: choosing for the stage you want to be at instead of the stage you’re at.

Hook: Most AI agent projects fail before they ship. Here’s what separates the ones that don’t.
Observation (what you’re noticing/learning): I’ve been building AI agents with clients across DTC, SaaS, and agencies for the past year. The gap between “we built a demo” and “this is running in production” is wider than most teams expect—and it’s almost never a model problem.
Context (why this matters now): Everyone’s building agents right now. The enthusiasm is real and the technology is genuinely capable. But the failure pattern I keep seeing isn’t hallucination or context limits. It’s the stuff around the agent: how it’s scoped, what it connects to, how it handles edge cases, and whether anyone’s actually going to use it when the novelty wears off.
Your take (3 lessons):
1. Narrow beats wide every time. The agents that ship are hyper-specific. “Summarize this meeting and create a Linear ticket with the right fields pre-filled” ships. “A general-purpose assistant for our team” doesn’t. The more specific the job, the easier it is to define success, catch failure, and trust the output.
2. The integration is the product. Agents are only as useful as the systems they connect to. We’ve spent more time on data pipelines, Slack hooks, and API auth than on prompt engineering—and that’s the right ratio. A well-integrated agent on a mediocre model beats a brilliantly prompted agent that can’t write back to anything.
3. Adoption needs a sponsor. The best technical agent we ever built almost died because nobody championed it internally. The ones that stick have a person on the client side who uses it publicly, shows others, and defends it when leadership asks “do we still need this?” Technical quality is table stakes. Change management is the real work.
